Why it's tough for anime at the Oscars

Ever since Spirited Away, anime fans always look forward to more nominations for some quality films at the Academy Awards. But practically 90% of the time, it never turns out. Even when there are anime films that garner a lot of attention from American critics and in the world wide box-office. This year, many believed a hit title, and one of the highest-grossing anime films since Spirited Away - Makoto Shinkai's 'Your Name' - might've had a chance. But as it turns out, no anime films were nominated for 2017 either. So what went wrong? Or is it a more systematic problem?
