Here's a brief run down of Oscar-Award nominated films for animation and production categories. For the full list, head on over here.
Of other interest, in the 'Best Original Song' category, 'Trolls' & 'Moana' have nominations.
It is surprising to see that 'Kubo & the Two Strings' got a nomination in the Best VFX category! That's certainly a first for an animated film! Given the film is stop motion, meaning it is photographed with a real camera, it seems that it was decided that the film could be classified as having enough VFX work to spar with the live action features!
No surprise to see Rogue One there for VFX which also got a nod for Sound Mixing.
It's nice to see Studio Ghibli one more time in the Animated category. One shocking thing is that no PIXAR films made it into the Best Animated Film Category this year! But Pixar does have Piper running for Animated Short... It is very likely Disney's Zootopia will take the Feature Award home...
Robert Valley gets an animated short spotlight with Pear Cider & Cigarettes!
The only superhero entries this year were Suicide Squad for make-up, and Dr. Strange for VFX.
Other than that in the live-action-y world, it looks like La La Land is the darling as far as nominations go with a record number of them!
