Oscar Nominees 2016!

Here are some of the finalists for the Academy Awards!

For best Animated Feature Film we've got:
- When Marnie Was There.
- Anomalisa
- Boy & the World
- 'Inside Out'
- Shaun the Sheep Movie

Marnie is neat but certainly not one of Studio Ghibli's strongest films. Aside from Aardman's latest, the strongest contenders are Pixar's extremely clever Inside Out (also nominated for Best Original Screenplay), though the darling of the lot due to critical reputation seems to be Charlie Kaufman's stop-motion film 'Anomalisa.' Sadly Mamoru Hosoda's 'The Boy & the Beast' never made the cut. And neither did the Peanuts Movie which was well received, and it seems Pixar's other film 'The Good Dinosaur' failed to resonate. If I had to guess, I think Anomalisa will win!

Best Animated Short nominees:
- Bear Story
- Prologue
- Sanjay's Super Team
- We Can't Live without Cosmos
- World of Tomorrow

Sadly I haven't seen any of these. But it does sound like Pixar's 'Sanjay's Super Team' could be the predictable winner. Then again, it could go to something more off the wall and artsy like Don Hertzfeldt's 'World of Tomorrow.'

In the Best Visual Effects department:
- Ex Machina
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- The Martian
- The Revenant
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Ex Machina is an amazing sci-fi film, also nominated for Best Original Screenplay. Mad Max was also outstanding and has picked up a smorgasbord of nominations to boot (Sound Mixing, Sound Editing including Best Director & Best Film!). But the likely winner could be Star Wars (Also nominated for Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Original Score)!

Production Design:
- Bridge of Spies
- The Danish Girl
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- The Martian
- The Revenant

I believe Mad Max has this one!

Make-Up & Hairstyling:
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window & Disappeared
- The Revenant

Hard to know about this one, but I also think Mad Max has this thanks to its shiny chrome finish!

Achievement in Film Editing:
- The Big Short
- Mad Max: Fury Road
- The Revenant
- Spotlight
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Given how many impressive shots and footage was taken and sort through for Mad Max I think it'll win this one too!

For the film lists of nominees from all other categories, why not let Del Toro & Ang Lee tell you?
