Pope Hats by Ethan Rilly in stock now!

The new indy comic Pope Hats by Toronto artist Ethan Rilly is in shop now. A mini comic with colour cover, and very clean interior art style. Now, if you're a regular reader of this blog, you know we like to stay positive, but really -this comic is one of the best indy comics we've seen in a very long time. Ethan Rilly, the book's artist has won the Xeric grant as well as having been nominated for a Doug Wright award.

Artistically, it reminds us a bit of Adrian Tomine with a mix of Mike Allred. The story focuses on two women in Toronto (we love stories set in our home town), one of which sees ghosts.

All copies come signed by series creator Ethan Rilly and at only $4 are a true bargain. Sure you can wait until he's famous and try to pick one of these online for a small fortune, but why wait. Certainly, we're not pushing this item as a collectible, but we honestly feel -when you come across a great book at a good price, why take the chance and wait for it to become one of those hard to get items.

Finally, in case you want someone elses opinion, Here' s what cartoonist Seth (Wimbeldon Green, It's a good life if you don't weaken) had to say about it.

"Pope Hats by Ethan Rilly is the most impressive debut comic I've seen in years. The work has that deceptive quality of ease about it--the characters breeze across the page with sparkling dialogue and wonderfully observed gestures. Rilly is the real deal--an exciting new cartoonist who can write and draw well and who genuinely understands how to tell a story."
